When I was in Hokkaido, I used to go fishing every week for about three years. Especially, this is a fishing spot with a dream that can catch fish over 50 centimeters with a high probability of catching black rockfish and Fat greenling.
Of course, there are many fish and the cooler is often full.
In particular, this sea area is a fishing spot that can be called a sacred place as a fishing spot for tai-rubber in Hokkaido.
As seasonal fishing, large fish can be caught from April to June due to the time of spawning of black rockfish and fox jacopever.
In particular, black rockfish can be caught by boat rock fishing in the afternoon, because large black rockfish come around the embankment.
In addition, it is a season when you can catch a large fat greenling.
During the spawning season, many black rockfish can be voluntarily release, so angler can catch a large size every year.
Even in Otaru, black rockfish can be caught, but black rockfish on the Sea of Japan side often has parasites like black sesame.
Therefore, there are many people who dislike them and come fishing for black rockfish on the Pacific side.
However, black rockfish during the spawning season is not delicious, so rockfish is usually released.
In addition, as for fishing things other than rockfish, there is also the season of spawning of flounder from April to May, and attracted to anglers who attracting flounder fishing.
In particular, there are many large flounder (over 40 centimeters) from Tomakomai to the south of Atsuma, and it is very interesting to be able to catch many flounder.
If you are fishing for flounder, you may catch 60cm size of stone flounder and barfin flounder that is valuable.
From July to September, white-edged rockfish will be the main target until the rockfish recover from spawning.
Compared to brown rockfish of Honshu and Kyushu, this one is very large, can catch a lot, and delicious.
So this fishing is very popular.
It’s called “Gaya” because it can catch a lot, but in recent years it is no longer a fish that can catch it.
This gaya is also a good friend of tai-rubber and needs a little skill to catch, and I think this gaya is the most difficult target to catch with tai-rubber.
In addition, we may aim for slim flounder (Babagarei), a valuable fish in the Tohoku region for a limited time.
This fishing can be done with ordinary flounder mechanism, but it is very difficult to aim this fish around the roots.
Details are introduced in the fishing method of slim flounder.
For this reason, techniques are necessary and it is difficult to catch with tai-rubber.
In addition, from September to October, there is also a squid fishing for a limited time.
Unlike Kanto region, the main mechanism is not purazuno but Sutte.
Because there are many sharks here, depending on the situation, it is less damaging if you do it with 4 sticks.
From October to December, you can catch a lot of black rockfish, and you will also be able to hit fat greenling and salmon.
Especially during this season, one or two salmons are hit every time offshore Gomoku fishing, and everyone is very happy with females for the purpose of salmon roe, but the sight of being a little disappointed with males is unique to Hokkaido.
And at this time , black rockfish gather to feed fish( call chika and shishamo) gather in the vicinity of the estuary for spawning, especially during this period, the probability of targeting a good type that is 50 centimeters in particular increases.
During this period, with tai-rubber fished particularly well, and over 50 fish could easily be caught in about 4 hours from noon to sunset.
In the Tomakomai off roots, the main area is to reach a depth of 50 to 80m in December, and large rockfish may gather here for wintering, and large-scale fishing is possible.
This time, especially when aiming with jigs and tai-rubber, large size appears.
From January to March, the water temperature will drop, making it difficult to catch black rockfish and fat greenling.
It is possible to aim those fish until mid-January, but after shift to cherry salmon fishing.
Please see the cherry salmon page for specific fishing methods.
In the cherry salmon fishing, alaska pollock is initially pleased as guest (because it has roe), but it is not much appreciated when the roe disappear.
The license system is generally set at 5 o’clock and ends at 12 o’clock, and the number is limited to 10.
This is called “teisuu” and it is targeted by Hokkaido anglers, but it cannot be achieved if the situation is not so good.
During this period, since the outside air temperature is roughly minus 2 digits, it is necessary to take measures especially against the cold.
In March, the turbidity of melting snow flows, so cherry salmon can no longer be caught, and instead shifts to pointhead flounder (Souhachi-garei).
This pointhead flounder is not close to the bottom of the flounder, but swims in a wide range of layers to the surface, and is a flounder with high swimming ability.
The anglers fish are aiming at this flounder with sabiki, but when I can catch it, I can catch 300 pieces.
There are so many people who go to this fishing because they can catch a lot and this fish is delicious.
Also, during this period, you should be careful because large cods that are after egg laying will also be hit.
As mentioned above, Tomakomai off is close to Chitose Airport and you can catch a lot of fish, this area is especially recommended for those who want to enjoy fishing in Hokkaido.
